socially conscious yarns & fibres.... |
||
|
|
Fibrepalooza is dedicated to the principles and promotion of both globally fair traded and locally produced fibres and woolen products. We sell and promote yarns, fibres and finished products from countries such as Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay, Russia, India, Australia, and North America. These products are raised and produced, often in cooperatives, with an ethical, sustainable, and environmental consciousness.
| We also believe in promoting our own local farms, artisans and wool processors, which helps support and develop our local economy. We aim to offer you high quality fiber and fiber related products from conscientious, small to medium-sized producers and cooperatives. | ||
|
Fibrepalooza is also a small family farm on 125 acres in rural Nova Scotia, Canada. We are dedicated to a self-sufficient, sustainable way of life. We are inspired through the dance of balancing this rural lifestyle, raising three teenagers, and living in this contemporary Western society. Our local products come from several sources. We have our own yarns from our small herd of Romney/Lincoln, and Romney/Shetland sheep, Mohair and Cashgora goats, and French, English, and Satin Angora rabbits. Their fibres are hand-spun, hand dyed, produced into roving for spinning, and knit into finished products. Excess fibre is taken to two local Maritime Woolen Mills, where they are traded for commercially spun and dyed yarns. To further enhance our product line we offer some hand worked products made by local artisans. |

Fibrepalooza is concerned for and dedicated to the peoples of this world and the
general well being of this planet. We sell products that have been fairly
purchased and ‘traded” from the primary producers. Through direct
purchases the producers receive a fair, better than market price for their
product, and also the consumer receives a more competitive price. This not only
allows the farmers and artisans to increase their income, it allows them to
maintain a way of life that has been traditionally and culturally sustaining.

This method of trade often eliminates all or many ‘middle people’ and is a positive situation for all involved—including the animals and the environment. When you purchase these socially conscious products you are not only helping small communities develop primary industry, but also enhancing incomes to provide better sources of water, food, infrastructures, and education.
