Be Sweet was started by Nadin Storyk Curtis after she
traveled and worked in Cape Town, SA, from 2002-2004. Be
Sweet works with the Xhosa women in the Eastern Cape, they
are the backbone of this company.
In a region where there is a 70% unemployment rate and hard
labor harvesting pineapple is the only option, these women
have revived traditional arts and learned new skills.

By
earning a good living they are empowering themselves, which
filters to their children and the community. This helps to
improve their infrastructures, such as running water and
electricity.
Be Sweet is also involved in a high school training project,
which is very empowering for those who
attend. Part of Be Sweet profits is donated to the local
school, which you are supporting when you purchase their
product. |

Be Sweet yarns are made from mohair and merino. Some
have ribbons , beads and two different spun strands
incorporated in them. These features make this yarn
very unique. The yarns are incredibly soft and the
dying offers many colors. Some of these dyes are
indigenous to Africa, i.e. indigo, saffron etc. |
